17 km south of the city of Beaune is the municipality of Chassagne-Montrachet. Like many other communes in Burgundy, Chassagne added the name of its most famous appellation to the commune name in 1879, namely Montrachet. PY (Pierre-Yves) Colin is undoubtedly a man of ambition.
A man who knows what he wants too. As one of Marc Colin's four sons, he inherits 6 hectares of vineyards in and around Chassagne-Montrachet. In addition to owning these vineyards, he has long-term contracts with winegrowers who work the vineyards according to specifications determined by him and from which he then picks the grapes or buys the must and vinifies it himself (1/3 of the total production of 70,000 bottles).
The grapes all come from old vines. This way of working allows him to offer a complete range of white Bourgognes of the highest level. The base wines are aged for 12 months in 600 liter barrels with the intention of making them drinkable at a younger stage.
Once at 1er Cru level, they undergo an education of 18 months and it is intended that they evaluate beautiful and good in bottle. It can be said that Pierre-Yves Colin has been one of the best white wine producers in Burgundy for the past 2 years.
Colin's style is comparable to that of Coche-Dury, one of his great examples. The wines are pure and sleek with a rich and noble material and have a strong terroir expression.
