The domain of Jean-Claude Bachelet and his sons Benoît and Jean-Baptiste dates back to the early 18th century. It currently has 10 ha of vineyards spread over the communes of Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet. They are often small plots with no less than 15 different “climats” in white and 5 in red. Half of this 10 ha is planted with Pinot Noir and the other half with Chardonnay.
When I discovered the domain, just in time, in 2004, it was still one of the best kept secrets in the area. Currently, the wines of the 2 brothers are distributed worldwide and they have many fans in Belgium. It is a fine example of a new generation of winemakers in Burgundy who are very disciplined in the vineyard and cellar. This means that the vineyards are meticulously worked and the grounds are regularly plowed. The returns are also kept low.
In the cellar, the vinification is accompanied with as little intervention as possible in order to allow each “terroir” to speak the best. An aging of 18 months in oak barrels gives the wines depth, structure and the possibility to mature for a long time.
For those who love refined and concentrated Burgundy wines with a sleek style and precise aromas, the Bachelet brothers have come to the right place. Traces of élevage are hardly present in their wines.
